In today’s ever-changing art world, creative boss babes may find it difficult to keep themselves up to date with the hottest creative trends, especially when they’re focused on creating their own work. Rather than focusing on a typical routine, it’s essential for creative boss babes to keep their eyes open to the latest styles and to experiment with new creative elements to stay a step ahead of everyone else in the industry. Whether you’re an aspiring or experienced creative, here are some tips on how you can remain up to date with the freshest new design trends:
When you own an online creative business, you should always be on the lookout for new sources of inspiration. Just because you’re a professional doesn’t mean you don’t need to learn better tactics for improving your designs. To stay competitive in an already super competitive market, you need to keep learning and refining your craft. One easy way to do this? Head to your local bookstore and pick up a few books, read creative blogs (like the one you’re reading right now), or subscribe to Entrepreneur.com, Medium.com or Smashingmagazine.com. Constantly reading about what’s new in the creative world is an easy way to stay up to date on creative & biz trends and the latest and greatest innovations in your field.
Podcasts are my jam. I start my morning with podcasts, I listen to podcasts on my commutes, I recommend podcasts to everyone I meet… basically, podcasts are a huge part of my life. The best thing about podcasts are that there are literally a ton of them out there that can help you build your business, or act as a guide to help you conquer the world as the creative boss babe you are. Check out one of my favorite podcasts that is perfect for creatives, Being Boss Podcast My other favorite podcasts include motivational podcasts that focus on building a business, breaking free of the 9-5 work cycle, and giving back to your community. For motivation, you need to listen to at least a few episodes of Jenna Kutcher (Goal Digger Podcast), Lewis Howes (The School of Greatness) and Chris Harder (For the Love of Money). If you’re not as much of a podcast person as I am, don’t fret; I don’t think anyone is! My recommendation is to choose 2-3 podcasts that speak to you and keep up with those. I’d choose one or two related to design and one related to motivation to continually refine both your creative and business skills!
You’d be surprised at exactly how much you can learn from another creative. If you’re afraid that talking with another creative could end up with them stealing your creative ideas, you really don’t have anything to worry about. Other reputable creatives won’t steal ideas from you, I promise! You’ll only open your mind to other ways of thinking about you can become a much better creative! This brings back memories to when I was in college and I used to go my schools library to learn with my peers who wanted to learn how to code. It was great to learn together because I didn’t feel like I was alone. When collaborating with other creatives you’re able to bounce off ideas and push you to research design trends.

This is the most simple way to keep up as a creative, but creative boss babes tend to get overwhelmed with the many search results from Google. When you search for certain keywords like, “graphic design trends” or “graphic design tools” you get a lot of results, but you want to read the articles that are dated as current.
